Three people were injured in an accidental shooting Wednesday at Detroit's Eastern Market, according to police. The shooting happened at Al's Fresh Fish & Chicken on Russell Street. Detroit police say a store employee claimed he found a gun and mishandled the weapon, shooting himself in the hand.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home north of Detroit Lakes where 36-year-old Todd Burris of Bemidji is accused of breaking in, assaulting someone, stealing a gun, and leaving. Deputies located Burris in Detroit Lakes and a pursuit began.
Grubbs and 18-year-old Daviyon Shelmonson-Bey of Detroit were killed in the shooting at Skinner Park, which is adjacent to Denby High School. A 17-year-old also suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg. Family members of Shelmonson-Bey said he jumped in front of another child to shield them from the bullets.
