This is the same moose that was munching outside my tent in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. If you spend enough time outside, sometimes these great animals will just hang out with you. The moose felt so comfortable with me that it draped its eyes and ears in the vegetation it was eating. Stop and listen! In September in moose country you can hear the sounds of bulls raking trees and bushes…First they do it in late August to remove the velvet from their antlers, then it gets serious as they “rake” to announce their presence to other bulls in the area…The special part is when they rake, and then stop and listen…they are listening for the grunts of another rival coming in to investigate.
