"We have no markers for our people lost at sea." The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous battle of the Second World War, one in which Canada played a central role. As of September 1939, Britain fought against the Nazis in Europe. The only way to prevent defeat was to supply the island by sea, from Canada. The convoys would sail out of Halifax with a destination of England or the USSR, to deliver vital supplies. The Germans wanted to cut these supply lines so they used submarines, c
